Last Match: Phoenix (2-1-1) suffered its first defeat at the hands of the Real Monarchs SLC 1-0. Phoenix controlled the match in the first half creating multiple chances, highlighted by Soloman Asante’s shot off the crossbar. The second half was a different story however, as Real was able to take advantage of some sloppy possession and defense to score the only goal of the match. Phoenix was unable to mount a comeback but not without the efforts of Didier Drogba, making his season debut.
What to look for from Phoenix Rising: A short week might be what the doctor ordered to rid Phoenix of the tough defeat Saturday. Look for some rotation as they approach their first match on short rest. This match would be a great time to get some minutes against weaker opposition for the guys who have found minutes hard to come by so far.
LA Galaxy II Scouting Report: LA has started slow this season, racking up a 0-2-2 record to start the season after being shutout 3-0 by Orange County in which LA finished the match with 9 men. The Galaxy have struggled in the final third, scoring a single goal in early stages of the season. As with most of the MLS reserve teams, Los Dos is a younger side filled with academy and fringe first team players. Notable players with Los Dos include Joao Pedro, who spent all of last year with the MLS side, Tomas Hilliard-Arce, the number 2 pick in this year’s MLS Superdraft, and John Requejo, the former Club Tijuana product.
