Phoenix Rising FC started the month of May with a big win, but now the hard part of the schedule begins as a two-match league road trip and a three-match road trip in all competitions begins with a match against near the bottom of the table Oklahoma City Energy FC.

LAST MATCH: Phoenix Rising came back from deficits of 1-0 and 3-1 to fight off a game LA Galaxy II 4-3 Friday night at the Phoenix Rising Soccer Complex. A pair of goals from Jason Johnson, a goal from Alessandro Riggi and the winner on a penalty kick from Didier Drogba ended a streak of two straight draws from Phoenix Rising.

JOHNSON, DROGBA NET LEAGUE HONORS: Johnson’s two goals earned him consideration for the Player of the Week. Johnson did not win the weekly honor, which went to Penn FC’s Tommy Heinemann, but Johnson was named to the Team of the Week. Drogba, who scored on the penalty kick, also had an assist on Johnson’s second goal, was named honorable mention for Team of the Week.

OKLAHOMA CITY REPORT: After winning its opener 1-0 on Mar. 17 against Tulsa Roughnecks FC, the club has lost seven straight matches. … The club traded an international roster spot on Tuesday to St. Louis FC in exchange for F Christian Volesky. Volesky has scored one goal in seven matches this season, and scored nine goals in 35 appearances for St. Louis. … Oklahoma City has only scored three goals on the season, from Francis Atuahene, Christian Ibeagha and Jaime Saij. … Saij leads the team with nine shots on the season. … Matt Van Ockel has been the man between the pipes this season, playing in all eight matches this season, conceding 14 goals so far this season.
