Phoenix Rising FC, Sacramento Republic FC play to scoreless draw

Phoenix Rising could not take advantage of a tired Sacramento Republic FC team that played 120 minutes on Wednesday night, settling for a 0-0 draw at Sacramento’s Papa Murphy’s Park Saturday night.

STARTING XI (4-1-2-3) (Subs used): GK-Carl Woszczynski; D- Amadou Dia, Mike da Fonte, Joe Farrell, Kody Wakasa; DM- James Musa; MF- Gladson Awako (Evan Waldrep 79), Kevon Lambert; F- Jason Johnson, Chris Cortez, Solomon Asante.

SUBSTITUTES NOT USED: Zac Lubin; Devonte Dubose, Doueuegi Mala; Luca Ricci, Billy Forbes; Kevaughn Frater.

MATCH RECAP: Phoenix Rising got the first chance of the match seven minutes in when Solomon Asante threw a ball across for Jason Johnson but his header went wide. Sacramento had a good chance in the 17th minute off a corner kick. The ball pinballed around in the box but Phoenix Rising’s defense was able to clear the danger. Asante had another chance in the 18th minute, but Sacramento Republic defender Mitchell Traintor was able to clear his chance. Sacramento had its best chance in the 43rd minute when Amadou Dia fouled Jure Matjasic in the box earning Sacramento a penalty. However, Jeremy Hall stepped up and shanked the ball over the top of the net to miss the penalty and keep the match at 0-0 at the half.

Gladson Awako tried to catch Sacramento sleeping coming right out of the second half getting an early shot in the first minute of play only to have Josh Cohen make a good save on the play. Phoenix Rising would have attempts in the 56th and 57th minutes. Awako had the first attempt that went wide then Jason Johnson followed that up with a header that just missed. Sacramento had a great chance in the 64th minute when Cameron Iwasa had a beautiful strike that just went over the top of the bar. Phoenix Rising’s best chance came in the 69th minute when Jason Johnson hit a ball from inside the box that hit off the far post. Hall had the last good chance of the match in the 88th minute, but his attempt went wide.
