Phoenix Rising FC adds D Batista on loan; parts ways with MF Awako
Phoenix Rising FC announced Thursday it had acquired D Lamar Batista on loan from Los Angeles Football Club for the 2019 season, while also announcing that the team mutually parted ways with MF Gladson Awako.
The 20-year old defender signed with LAFC on Feb. 21. Batista spent some time in the preseason with Phoenix Rising, but also appeared in three preseason matches with LAFC.
Batista recently played for Portland Timbers 2 FC, scoring one goal and one assist in 22 matches played in the 2018 season, and playing 19 contests for the club in 2017. Batista played against Phoenix Rising in the first round of the 2018 USL Cup Playoffs.
Awako, who came over when Patrice Carteron was brought on to coach at Phoenix Rising, played two seasons with the club, scoring two goals and five assists in that time. It was anticipated that Awako was returning for the 2019 campaign.
