Two starters for Phoenix Rising FC have received the call to play for the Jamaican National Team in the upcoming FIFA International window. It is probable that the two players will be unavailable for selection for the March 30 match against the Colorado Springs Switchbacks.
Left winger Junior Flemmings was last called up to participate in the Raggae Boyz campaign for the Carribean Cup in 2017. Flemmings scored in the Phoenix Rising FC season opener, and his added assist garnered him Week #1 All-USL honorable mention. Fleming’s absence will likely be filled by fellow countryman Jason Johnson, who has scored in consecutive games after coming on as a super-sub. Also available for selection is Joey Callistri.
Joining Flemings will be Kevon Lambert. The mop-haired midfielder has played every minute of the first two matches and has two key passes and an assist on Jason Johnson’s game one extra-time equalizer. Lambert caught the coach’s eye in Gold Cup play in the July of 2017 against Canada in Phoenix. Lambert continued his national service most recently in September of 2018. He will likely be replaced by Collin Fernandez or James Musa. A less likely, though possible replacement, is AJ Cochran.
The players will be depart the team ahead of CONCACAF National League qualifiers in games against El Salvador (March 23) and Costa Rica (March 26). A victory against El Salvador clinches a berth in both the 2019-20 Concacaf Nationals League and 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup.
