Small Goal Soccer brings Neymar Jr’s Five to Phoenix

Sm

Small Goal Soccer announced last week that it is teaming up with Red Bull to bring Neymar Jr’s Five tournament to Phoenix Rising Soccer Complex.  The national tournament will consist of men’s and women’s leagues and has a format which bring a fast and entertaining game to the fine pitch of Phoenix Rising FC on Saturday May 12.

The five-a-side tournament rewards fast, technical and creative small-field play in quick 10 minute matches.  Each goal a team scores, the opposition loses a player.  The tournament’s open format is meant to feature teams of five to seven players from 18 to 25 years of age.  Teams are allowed to have up to two players over the age of 25.

Adam Thelwell, founder of Small Goal Soccer, said this about the partnership between Neymar Jr’s Five, SGS, and Phoenix Rising FC: “The partnership will ensure a top quality tournament and fun event for everyone involved.”

The Neymar Jr’s Five organization reports that last year’s tournament had over 100,000 participants in 53 countries.  Local winners will receive an all-expense paid trip to Miami, Florida for the US National Finals.  Winners of that tournament will be flown Praia Grande, Brazil for the World Final at Neymar Jr’s own Instituto Projecto.

Thelwell believes that the partnership, which notes Red Bull as a signature sponsor, “means the best talent will come to compete, and it promises to be a great day of soccer for players and spectators alike.

Teams can register here for a signup fee of $30.  More information and links can be found on the Firebird Soccer events calendar.
