Off the heels of a disappointing draw against Rio Grande Valley FC, Phoenix Rising FC returns to the friendly confines of the Phoenix Rising Soccer Complex to take on another top half of the Western Conference table club in Orange County SC, looking to extend its unbeaten streak to six matches and also looking to extend its streak of 376 minutes without allowing a goal.
PHOENIX RISING LAST MATCH: Phoenix Rising FC traveled to Rio Grande Valley to take on the near-bottom of the Western Conference table club. Despite the good defensive efforts of the team, Phoenix Rising could not find the back of the net and ended up with a 0-0 draw to Rio Grange Valley FC. Carl Woszczynski extended his streak to four straight cleans sheets, giving him six on the season and tied for fourth best in the league. Phoenix Rising outshot Rio Grande Valley 16-9 and had a 54 percent to 46 percent possession advantage.
PHOENIX RISING REMAINS UNBEATEN UNDER SCHANTZ: Schantz is now 2-0-1 after the draw, and is looking forward to extending his streak at home. Schantz has leaned more on assistant coaches Corey Robertson and Blair Gavin in his return to the touchline. “I feel like I have a better handle on this the second time around,” Schantz said at a media World Cup viewing party on Thursday. “I really want to put my stamp on this club and make this work.”
ORANGE COUNTY REPORT: Orange County is coming off a huge 6-1 victory over Tulsa Roughnecks FC, in which six different players scored goals, including Thomas Enevoldsen, who tied Swope Park Rangers’ Kharlton Belmar for the league lead in goal scoring with nine. Aodhan Quinn has three goals on the season, and four players have two goals. Quinn and Enevoldsen are tied for the team lead in assists with four, and Mark Segbers has three. Midfielder Christian Duke leads the team in fouls won (34) and fouls conceded (24). Andre Rawls leads the team in goal with seven clean sheets and 55 saves in 15 matches played this season.
LAST MEETING: The clubs met on Mar. 17 to open the season in Orange County. Solomon Asante opened the scoring with a goal in the 11th minute, and Phoenix Rising thought they had the victory, but Alex Crognale scored in the 90th minute and the teams split points in the 1-1 draw.
